Summer Soccer Training Packet - Day 14

Day 14 Motivation: "Congratulations on completing two weeks of dedicated training! As we enter this well-deserved rest day, let's not forget the importance of maintaining mental sharpness. While our bodies recover, our minds stay focused, visualizing success, and strategizing for the challenges ahead. Use this day to rejuvenate, recharge, and reflect on your journey so far. Keep your mental game strong, stay hungry for improvement, and let your determination drive you forward. Remember, champions are made not just on the field, but in the moments of preparation and mental fortitude. Enjoy your rest, but keep the fire burning within. We've got more greatness to achieve!" - Coach Thomas Goodman

How to make a scouting report

This week you are making a scouting report for your player you picked in your first week, your player is playing Arsenal this weekend (if your player is from Arsenal you will do yours vs. Man City). The first step of making a scouting report is scouting the whole team. Here is what we are looking for:

General Research: Start by gathering information about the opposing team, including their recent performances, formation preferences, key players, playing style, and tactical tendencies. Watch their previous matches, analyze match reports, and study statistics to gain insights into their strengths and weaknesses.

Focus on Key Players: Identify the opposition's key players who are likely to have the most influence on the game. Pay close attention to their playing style, preferred positions, strengths, and weaknesses. Understanding how to neutralize or exploit these key players can give your team a significant advantage.

Analyze Set Pieces: Study the opposition's set-piece routines, including corner kicks, free kicks, and throw-ins. Pay attention to their positioning, movement patterns, and delivery methods. Developing strategies to defend against or capitalize on set pieces can be crucial in determining the outcome of the game.

Assess Formations and Tactics: Analyze the opposing team's formations and tactical approach to different phases of the game, such as attacking, defending, and transitioning between the two. Look for patterns in their positioning, movement, and decision-making to anticipate their game plan and adjust your tactics accordingly.

Consider Home and Away Factors: Take into account the venue of the match and any home or away advantages that may affect the opposition's performance. Factors such as pitch conditions, crowd support, and travel fatigue can influence the dynamics of the game and impact your scouting strategy.

Part 1:

Do the team scouting report for your team, you can find videos on Arsenal and Man City quite easy on YouTube, I am not allowed to post video of EPL games due to copy right laws, but there is plenty of places to find game stats and video on the last few games. With set pieces Arsenal has entire articles about Ben White and corners that you should look at and if you are a goal keeper think of how you could defend them?

Part 2:

Imagine you are the coach of the team and you are giving your player scouting advice for the game vs. Arsenal. Write an individual scouting report, these reports should explain who they are going up against (weakness and strengths) When can your player exploit the other teams weaknesses? As a coach what formation will you play and why? What formation is Arsenal likley to play and what do you think their starting lineup will be, what will your starting line up be?

Part 3:

Write down your body weight

Journal Entry #14: After reading the article about scouting your opposition what did you learn? When scouting Arsenal (or Man City) could you easily find the information on those teams? When you made the individual report for your player what do YOU want to see on a scouting report? Next year what do you need from the coaches to get you more prepared to know the team you are about to play? Add your scouting reports to your journal. Make sure you send in your entire week’s journal entries to your coach.

Note your weight, has it moved up or down? How are you feeling today after the second week of training finished?

Put your food and drink intake from yesterday
